Using Search Synonym to demystify Edit vs Maintain Tasks in Workday

Do you struggle with remembering which Workday tasks are Edit tasks and which are Maintain tasks? Don't worry, we’ve got a solution for you.

Workday has a great tenant-wide feature that allows you to create synonym searches. The feature allows users to search for terms specific to their business and match them to a Workday term. For example, if a company refers to their Customers as “Clients” instead of “Customers”, you can create a synonym search whereby anytime someone searches for the term “Client”, Workday will display any results with the word “Client” and the word “Customer”.

To set this up for the Edit and Maintain tasks, go to Tenant Setup then Tenant Setup - Search and setup two Search Synonyms, one whereby the Workday Term is Edit and the Custom Term is Maintain and another whereby the Workday Term is Maintain and the Custom Term is Edit. That's it!

Now search as you like and never worry about remembering the difference between Edit and Maintain.
