Workday Cloud Platform Update from Rising

Workday announced some early customer successes using the Workday Cloud Platform.  The platform allows customers to develop custom applications outside of Workday that maintain a consistent user experience and access to tenant data.  The App Creator tool will also allow non-technical users to create basic applications using a guided process.

The platform could be used to develop portals and “natural workspaces” that go beyond the functionality provided by Workday in existing solutions like the Supplier and Customer Portals.  Portal pages could be used to expose Workday data to internal or external stakeholders, collect data input, and initiate custom business processes.

The platform could also be used to create “custom pages” for internal users to customize and improve upon the standard UI experience.  Delivered fields, formats, groupings, and interactions could all be modified to meet unique business requirements.

Netflix provided a demonstration of a portal where their Suppliers can submit PO Requests. After requests are submitted, an integration creates a Requisition in Workday which is routed for approval by the Finance Team.

The Cloud Platform is available to customers who submit a use case to Workday and are accepted into the Fast Follower program.  Workday continues to develop additional REST API’s to enable usage of the platform across the full product suite, and promises to dedicate resources to early adopters to ensure their projects are successful.
