Spend Categories in Multiple Hierarchies
This is a feature that has been requested for some time now, however, it does require a certain amount of careful planning and understanding. A key feature of this update is that a Spend Category cannot belong to two Spend Category Hierarchies with the same Top-Level parent.
This will allow multiple business units, cost centers or subsidiaries to use the same Spend Category while reporting or setting rules for different Spend Category Hierarchies. This allows individual smaller units to operate in a way that is best for their particular needs, while allowing the parent organization to still report in a way that makes the most sense for it.
This is an Opt-In change, and it is very important to approach it slowly and carefully. This can have a wide ranging impact on Account Posting Rules, Reporting and Calculated Fields so be sure to do a full review of all areas impacts before enabling this feature.
